PROFILE

Simon Dwight is know as the Landlord because he owns the paint inside the AIS arena. He is a very stingy Landlord always trying to keep his territory vacant, he often does. He is without a doubt the best shot blocker in Australia. He has great timing and great ups. He plays above the rim at both ends of the floor, coaches have sometimes been critical of his man to man defence on the floor or out on the perimeter, but if someone gets beaten he is one of the best help defenders around. In his first year in the league Dwight was runner up in to John Rillie for the Rookie of the Year award, 2nd in blocked shots (2.8bpg) while scoring 8.8ppg and pulling down 5.7rpg. His minutes were slightly limited due to the signing of import Power Foward Javaugn Scales. However Dwights minutes and out put increased when Scales left. The Cannons signed Guard Darnell Mee, and that was followed in 97 by the signing of another import guard Mario Donaldson. Simon quickly lifted his scoring and rebounding averages while still remaining at the top of the rebounding catagories. Dwight was a key contributer in the 1993 Silver Medal winning team that went to Greece to play in the U/20 World Championships. He again was a big part of the Gold Medal winning 22 and under World Championship team that played in Melbourne last year. He hit a big three pointer in the closing seconds of the Semi-Final against Argentina that set up Aaron Trahairs game winner. . .
